Project Speleostan - THE PROGRAM OF SPELEOLOGICAL RESEARCH
PROJECT SPELEOSTAN. Large-scale integrated speleological research in Kyrgyzstan.
Project objectives based on analysis of previous karst and speleological research, but also on the using of modern field research methods and theoretical analysis of conditions of formation of karst caves.
Geological structure, history of geological development, as well as the geographical features of certain areas of the country, defined conditions for development of karst processes and the formation of caves.
In Kyrgyzstan karst processes were developed on the territory of about 30 thousand km2 . Karst is widely distributed in the southern Tien Shan, in South-Western Tien Shan and the middle Tien Shan.
Based on the study of factors and conditions of formation of karst, previously assessed areas with the development of karst processes and, accordingly, carried out the zoning of karst (V. N. Mihaljev 1989).
In the second half of the XX century (V. E. Reis 1973-1977), speleological research were conducted in finding and mapping caves in various promising karst regions of Kyrgyzstan, scale 1:1 000 000. On the basis of these studies V.E. Reis pre-speleological division into districts was conducted, based on genetic and morphometric characteristics of caves and artificial mines, revealing the karst cavity. The result of the work was to map the Actual material on caves, abandoned mines and other cavities on the territory of Kyrgyzstan, see map.
So, currently, based on the analysis of the actual material as well as natural conditions for development of karst processes and their formation, Foundation for the Preservation and Study of Caves has initiated a program of large-scale (1:100 000), complex speleological research in a promising karst regions of Kyrgyzstan.
The main purpose of the program: a Multifactorial assessment of the development of karst and assessment of the prospects for the formation of caves in karst regions, formed in different geographical and geological conditions; evaluation of prospects for further speleological research; search and exploration of new caves; the creation of new maps speleological zoning of scale 1:500 000.
In the framework of programme will be planned number of expeditionary projects aimed at complex speleological research, search and research of caves in karst areas, which are confined to certain mountain ranges and their foothills on the territory of the Republic.
One of the main objectives of the project is the expedition to find and explore new caves as well as modern studies of the previously known caves with the use of new methods and technologies.
The search and research of caves, is planned in certain karst areas according to available maps-schemes speleological and karst zoning, which was carried out previously, respectively, in 1977 and 1989.
Goals and objectives of the field research, take into account the actual material of previous studies, a targeted search of caves in certain areas, of certain karst areas.
